Senior Researcher
David Farbman is the senior researcher at NCTL. He works primarily with NCTL’s policy and communication teams to leverage research into sound and robust policies and to develop broader public understanding of the benefits of more time. In addition to being the lead author of NCTL’s blog, “Time Matters,” David has written extensively about school and district efforts to expand time and to optimize time use in schools and in the classroom. He was also the lead developer for NCTL’s “Quality Time Analysis” tool to help schools collect data about time use and then translate the data into strengthening their educational programs.
Prior to coming to NCTL, David worked in various policy and research positions at Recruiting New Teachers, Inc., Achieve, Inc. and Jobs for the Future. He has also served as an advisor on educational and other policy issues to gubernatorial candidates in Massachusetts.
A graduate of the public schools of Worcester, Massachusetts, David earned his B.A. from Brandeis University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in American History from Brown University, writing his dissertation on the culture of high school students in the postwar years.
