Vice President for ELT Program & Policy
Ben Lummis is a Vice-President for Program and Policy at the National Center on Time & Learning where he oversees the organization’s state engagement and school transformation practice areas. He directs the organization’s technical assistance and support to states, districts, and schools, and has been instrumental to the development of all state and federal policy efforts on expanded learning time. Previously, as Director of Public Policy at the National Center, Ben led the policy team that developed the nationally recognized Massachusetts Expanded Learning Time Initiative.
Prior to joining NCTL, Ben worked at the Center for Collaborative Education where he was the director of Turning Points, the nationally recognized middle school improvement model. At Turning Points, Ben was responsible for the quality and implementation of Turning Points’ services to schools and for the growth of its national network of schools and regional centers.
Ben taught middle school English in Cambridge and Needham, and began his career in education as an instructor for Outward Bound, the internationally known outdoor education school. He has also worked in Washington, DC as a member of Senator Edward Kennedy’s staff, and as an analyst for the Kettering Foundation. Ben received his master’s in teaching from Tufts University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
