Time Matters Blog
Thank You & Goodbye
Friday, February 19th, 2010 - 8:38 am ESTIt is with mixed emotions that I announce that I have resigned from my position at the National Center on Time & Learning. After more than 2 years with NCTL, I am moving on to embark on a new adventure. I’ll be launching a non-profit organization based in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil , and will be relocating there permanently at the end of this month. After working for more than 20 years in public education, this will be an exciting new challenge! I remain proud of the work of NCTL and am heartened that Increased Time for Learning/Expanded Learning Time continues to be an issue that’s on the minds of education reformers at the state and federal levels. I encourage you to keep in touch with our work, which has now grown to 6 states, by following this blog. I'm passing the baton to regular contributor, David Farbman. I have enjoyed working with you over the years and wish you continued success.

This is a new beginning for Oklahoma City Public Schools, Tulsa Public Schools, and their eight participating schools; and yet, it’s really the culmination of more than two years of collaborative discussions, presentations, and research on the benefits of expanded time. We’re grateful for the leadership and support of State Superintendent Sandy Garrett and Assistant State Superintendent Lisa Pryor and are excited to begin this partnership with the support of the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 - 1:20 pm ESTJay Matthews at The Washington Post recently covered Hawaii’s troubling decision to cut back school time to off-set their budget woes. But while the “furlough Fridays” debate continues to rage across the state, NCTL has been quietly working with a handful of schools to actually add time to the school day. NCTL President Jennifer Davis was in Hawaii last week meeting with education officials and political leaders across the Aloha state, talking about the need to expand the learning day to improve educational outcomes for their students.
