Read our blog: Time Matters
About Us
The National Center on Time & Learning is dedicated to expanding learning time to improve student achievement and enable a well-rounded education for all children. We start with a simple premise - that time matters when it comes to education. In order to help close the achievement gap and see all our students excel, we need to give them more time in the school day.
As researchers, we know the impact that expanded learning time can have on student achievement. It can be used to broaden and deepen coverage of core academics. It can create greater opportunities for enrichment and experiential learning, and result in improved teaching through teamwork and collaborative planning. We’ve compiled extensive research and have become a clearinghouse on the most effective ways to expand learning time.
As advisors to policy makers, we are dedicated to working with policy makers, schools, parents and teachers across the country to create a school day that responds to the needs of today’s youth and demands of today’s world, rather than the farms and factories of the past. We’ve helped to develop federal, state and local policies to expand learning time.
Finally, as technical assistance providers, we directly help schools expand learning time to meet the needs of their students. We’ve helped redesign school schedules, negotiated teacher’s contracts, developed community support, helped build school partnerships and measured impact.
